Pre-Conference Workshop on How to Conduct High Impact Research and Get Published in Top Tier ISI WoS Journals

The institute for scientific information (ISI) web of science (WoS) indexed journals are known for their rigorous peer review process and very high level of rejection rate, up to 90%. It is extremely difficult for a scholar without prior ISI WoS publication knowledge to get it right at the beginning of his/her submission without input from experienced hands. The ISI WoS indexed journals attract very high submissions from top researchers across the globe and the publication space is limited for competing among researchers.

Presently, is not mandatory for all scholars in African especially west African institutions to publish in ISI WoS indexed journals before promotion or securing grants. This have open the space for scholars in Africa to publish in any journal including predatory journals which do not add value to the institutions from Africa. There are many scholars in African institutions that published the so called “international journals” knowingly or unknowingly that the journals are predatory/bogus/fake. Such kind of journals are only interested in the publication fees and published whatever is submitted as long as the author will pay.

However, the trend is now changing with few institutions in Nigeria such as University of Ilorin, Federal University of Technology, Minna, etc. are considering the possibility of introducing ISI WoS indexed journals with impact factor as one of the criteria for promotion. However, awareness & techniques for publishing in such journals among scholars in Afrocan institutions is very low. These motivated the call for this pre-conference workshop. Though, many universities in South Africa such as university of cape town, university of Johannesburg, etc are already deep rooted into publishing in such ISI WoS journals. This account for their dominance in Africa universities ranking and showing a good outing in the world ranking. In west Africa, the issue of publishing in ISI WoS indexed journals is extremely very low.

Objective: To enhance participant’s skills of conducting high impact research towards African development & publishing the results in top tier ISI WoS journals.

Participants of the Workshop will be able to:

  • Boost the confidence of the participants’ in writing a manuscript with high quality for submission to ISI WoS indexed journal with impact factor.
  • Know how to conduct high impact research & publish the result in ISI WoS indexed journal with impact factor.
  • Know academic databases e.g ISI WoS, Scopus, PubMed., DBLP, etc.
  • Compute ISI WoS impact factor.
  • Identify quartile ranking of ISI WoS indexed journals (Q1, Q2, Q3 & Q4).
  • Equip with techniques and skills required to publish in high impact factor ISI WoS journals.
  • Know the pitfalls and secret to successfully penetrate ISI WoS indexed journals.
  • Understand what ISI WoS indexed journals editors & reviewers are looking for?
  • Overcome the challenges of ISI WoS indexed journals high rate of rejections.
  • Understand scholar metrics: Productivity, scholar impact, H-Index, and citations.
  • Foster collaboration among African scholars

Target audience: Lecturers, potential TET fund research grant scholars, industry R and D personnel, active researchers with zeal to publish in high impact journals and postgraduate students
Target institutions: Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges, Research institutes, Government Establishments, Agencies and parastatals across the Africa.
